Redbird Television Productions

RedBird Productions has been making television under the name of "Resource Base" for 17 years. In that time we have won BAFTAs for the dramas Dream On, Lion Mountain and Oddsquad. We have also been awarded RTS Awards, the Prix Jeunesse, Japan Prize, a Learning on Screen Award and One World Media Award... We work collaboratively on all of our programmes and we have deliberately remained a small indie so that each of our programmes can be crafted by one or both of our company directors. Over the years we have built up a team of talented freelancers who are closely associated with the company - as writers, directors, producers and production crew. All make a significant contribution to our programmes. We believe in nurturing new talent as well as working regularly with our experienced team of associates.

OUR LATEST PRODUCTIONS

All About Me

All About Me is our first drama for BBC Daytime. The hour-long programme explores family secrets the power of genetic relationships and the impact of discovering your dad is in fact a sperm donor.

Oddsquad

Oddsquad is a double-BAFTA winning drama by John Godber and Jane Thornton, featuring Rasmus Hardiker. A group of students find themselves outsiders, drawn together to sort our one another's problems in a smelly old caravan. Filmed in Hull and featuring many local actors, the drama was for the BBC.

A Picture of Hull

Directed by Rosa Rogers, this documentary was shown on BBC 3 and in the regions. The programme is one of a series which explores the impact of a location on the work of an artist. We focused on John Godber and the influence of Hull on his writing.

Dragon People

Dragon People was a one-off documentary special in our series Vee TV - a co-production with Maverick TV for Channel 4. We follow the journey of a deaf photographer as she discovers what life is like for deaf people in China.

New Shoots

Nancy's film formed part of our New Shoots series, a co-production with Maverick Television for Channel 4. New Shoots gave 12 disabled directors the opportunity to make their first mainstream half hour documentary. We supported them as they developed a range of creative and ingenious documentaries covering topics as diverse as dog racing and knife crime.

Lion Mountain

Lion Mountain is a half hour BAFTA winning drama by Ray Harrison Graham about a young Sierra Leonean refugee and his sister. The programme also won a One World Media Award. We worked with the Sierra Leonean community in London through a series of workshops as we developed the drama.

Who Cares?

This half hour drama written and directed by Ray Harrison Graham follows the struggles of a young carer as he copes with his mum's regular absences and his nan's deteriorating health. We made the programme for the BBC alongside our BAFTA winning drama Lion Mountain.

2 Tough Crew

2 Tough Crew is one of three short dramas we made for the BBC to support the teaching of "emotional literacy". Each drama presents a rich set of circumstances for classroom discussion and debate. The dramas were written by Malcolm Campbell and directed by Ray Harrison Graham.

Losing It

This Learning on Screen award winning drama was written by Malcolm Campbell and directed by Cilla Ware for Channel 4. It features the story of successful and gorgeous Jude who doesn't have a care in the world... until he starts slowly losing his mental health.

World of Difference took three groups of young people from the UK to work on a development project elsewhere in the World. This clip is from our Cambodia programme, directed by Rupert Miles. Other half hour docs focused on Bolivia and the Gambia. The series, for Channel 4, examined what could be achieved with a budget of £10,000 in a developing country. And the programmes have been used to teach global citizenship.
